Best regards, Salvatore Bancheri Chair, Dept. of Italian Studies, University of Toronto ================ Assistant Professor - Contractually Limited Term (Professoriate) – Italian Studies The Department of Language Studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga invites applications for a 5 year contractually limited term appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Italian Studies in one or more of the following fields, with a specialization in Italian Pedagogy: Language Teaching and Learning, Second Language Acquisition, and Sociolinguistics. Demonstrated knowledge in the fields of Semiotics and/or Romance Philology are also an asset. The position start date is July 1, 2017. Applicants must have earned a PhD in any of the relevant fields mentioned above by the appointment date, or shortly thereafter. The successful candidate must show evidence of excellence in research and teaching, and significant experience in coordinating Italian courses at the university level. Excellence in research will be demonstrated by publications in top ranked and field relevant academic journals, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements by referees. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, strong letters of reference and the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application. Native or near-native proficiency in Italian (i.e., ability to teach in Italian in the undergraduate and graduate programs) and a strong command of oral and written English are required. The successful applicant will teach in the Italian undergraduate programs and engage in the experiential learning activities offered in the Department. S/he will undertake graduate teaching and supervision, as a member of the Graduate Department of Italian Studies at the St. George campus. The successful applicant will be expected to develop and maintain an active, externally funded program of research. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
