Using CEFR for Oral Placement Interviews

Faculty members at the University of Fukui, a Japanese national university, developed a system of five-minute English oral interviews based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and its Japanese counterpart (CEFR-J). As part of their research, they conducted more than 2,500 placement interviews over three academic years. The workshop will focus on the development of this flexible oral placement test, and the possibility to tailor this system to the specific needs of curricula based on language communication.
